dedicated to Lord Vishnu, another important Hindu God, are the Chakrapani and SarangapaniTemples. The Mahamaham Festival
celebrated every twelve years at the Mahamaham Tank in Kumbakonam is a very
popular festival that draws pilgrims from all over the country. The next
festival is in the year 2016 (Feb- March).

AiravatesvaraTemple
Located at Darasuram, 4 km west of Kumbakonam, is AirvatesvaraTemple, constructed by Rajaraja Chola II
(1146-63). This temple is a prime example of 12th century Chola architecture
and the name of the temple is derived from Airavat meaning the holy white
elephant.
Swamimalai temple
The Lord Murugan temple is located in Swami Malai, which
is around 10 km from Kumbakonam. It is one of the temples dedicated to the Lord
Muruga. Lord Muruga was the son of the famous Hindu God, Shiva. It is believed
that Lord Muruga taught Lord Shiva the meaning of ?mandra? (OM).
ThiruvalansuzhiVinayakarTemple
This temple is located in a small village called Thiruvalansuzi,
about 4 km from Kumbakonam. This Shiva temple is famous for Vinayakar sculpture,
which is supposed to have been carved from white foam.

Please recommend a decent hotel at Kumbakonam which has western toilet facility in a range of Rs 400 to Rs 500 per day for two persons with an attached vegetarian restaurant.
