About Kundapur Tourism
Kundapur is a large town in the Udipi district of Karnataka. It is the headquarters of Kundapur taluk and is situated 36 km from Udipi.
The origin of the name is traced back to the Kundeshvara temple, near
the River Panchgangavalli. The name is apt as 'Kunda' also means
jasmine and Kundapur has an abundance of jasmine trees. Historically
rich, the taluk was the main port during the reign of Rajas of Baindoor
who came into power after the decline of the Vijayanagar kingdom.
Surrounded by water on three sides - Arabian sea, and the rivers Panchgangavalli and Haladi, Kundapur
has palm fringed river banks and backwaters. Basically a temple town it
has now developed more tourism avenues and has become a popular
