| Kurinjimala Sanctuary |

'Neelakurinji'
is the name of a blue flower which is available in plenty in Idduki and Munnar
region. That?s the reason why this place is called 'Kurinjimala' meaning
mountain of the Kurinji flower. In fact, every year the foest department holds
a Neelakurinji fest in the month of October in Munnar. Kurinjimala sanctuary is located in Idduki
district. The district has several protected areas of which Kurinjimala is also
one. These protected areas are specially known for endangered species like tiger,
Nilgiri Thar, Grizzled giant squirrel, Nilgiri Wood-pigeon, elephant, gaur,
pigeon, sambar deer and Neelakurinji.
Idduki
is known for the splendid gardens, lush greenery, streams and species. It
houses many hill stations and is therefore a hot tourist destination in Kerala.
The hill stations include Devikulam and Munnar.
