About Legship Tourism
The small village of Legship is
about 16 km from the Gangtok-Gyalsing highway, close to Pelling. It is the
gateway for exploring the Western District of Sikkim. Legship has an extremely
picturesque location, being situated on the banks of the river Rangit, with the
mighty snow capped mountain ranges in the background. According to legends,
Legship holds significance for the Hindus since it has a temple where one of
the Pandavas, Arjuna is supposed to have meditated. His devotion impressed Lord
Shiva and he appeared as a hunter (kirat) to test Arjuna. To mark the divine
spot, the Kirateshwar Mahadev mandir was constructed and has become a popular
tourist destination. A large hydro electric plant has made Legship an important
place in Sikkim
of late. Pristine location, a breathtaking view of the mountains surrounded by
verdant greenery make Legship a ?must see? place on the tour of Sikkim.
