About
Lilabari Lilabari is situated in North Lakhimpur, in Assam,
on the north bank of the mighty Brahmaputra
river. It is of importance to tourism since it has the eastern-most airport in India, and
services the state of Arunachal Pradesh. It is 67 km from Itanagar, the capital
of Arunchal Pradesh and it takes around two hours to get there by bus or car.
Lilabari is in Lakhimpur district, a rich and fertile area of Assam, which is
covered with green paddy fields and agricultural land. In fact the name
Lakhimpur is believed to have originated from the word Lakshmi, the goddess of
prosperity, since paddy is associated with Lakhimi and pur means full. Till the
early 1950s there was practically no communication links to this district. In
the year 1954, a temporary aerodrome was started, and gradually ASTC buses
started plying, and the North East Frontier Railway started train services from
