About Lohardaga Tourism
The
small rustic town of Lohardaga
is the headquarters of the Lohardaga district in Jharkhand state. In the early
1900s, it was designated the post of the Commissioners headquarters of
Chotanagpur. Originally carved out of Ranchiin 1983, it is situated in the western region of Jharkhand. It was given the
position of a sub division in 1972 and a district in 1983. It
covers a hilly terrain and dense forest areas and is known to be inhabited
since antiquity though no written records exist before Mahavir's time. In Jain
texts there is reference to Lord Mahavir's visit to Lore-a-Yadaga, which means 'river of tears' in Mundari. The famous book on Akbar, 'Ain-e-akbari' mentions
a place called Kismate Lohardaga.The
basic meaning of Lohardaga can be gleaned from Lohar stands for ironmonger and Daga
which stands for center, so it is said to be a big center of iron mining and
smelting in olden days.
