There is an old fort you could explore here known as the Madh Fort, also known as Versova Fort. It is about 15kms from Malad and near the Aksa beach. Built by the Portuguese, it served as an important watch tower. Today, it can give you an amazing view of the coast of Mumbai.
You could also head to the famous 16th century Portuguese church, Church of St. Bonaventure, located on the beach at Erangal. If you visit in January, you could experience the Erangal Feast.
Not very far from the Madh beach, is the Aksa Beach in the Aksa village, at Malad. The beach has a naval base at one end and another beach called Dana Paani at the other end.

Thirty minutes from the suburbs of Mumbai, Madh is a quick retreat for a weekend holiday. It lies along the northwestern coast of Mumbai and you can reach it by car or by an exciting ferry ride. A tiny peninsula, Madh Island,
is made up of many small villages inhabited primarily by fishermen and
farmers, and dotted with mangroves. The foremost is the Madh village,
with a majority Roman Catholic population of East Indian origin; and Erangal Village
where a majority of farmers live. Madh became popular as a beach
destination for its untouched sandy beaches and parties thrown by the
rich of Mumbai. |
