The star attraction is the Maithan Dam, which stands 165 ft. high and generates 60000 KW of electricity. If you want to visit the powerhouse, you need to get special permission and guided tours are available.
Located on Samved Shikhar, the biggest hill in the state, Parasnath temple is dedicated to the 24 Jain Teerthankars, thus a revered place for Digamber and Swetamber Jains; while in the foothills are nestled more than 100 temples.
For the nature lovers and those looking for a relaxing spot, visit Topchanchi Lake, about 40 km away from Dhanbad. The place is ideal for a picnic and boating facilities are available in the idyllic surroundings.
See the ancient Kalyaneshwari temple, dedicated to Goddess Durga, close to the Maithan Dam. Also visit the famous Shakti Mandir in Dhanbad. The temple has an Akhand Jyoti, which was brought from Jwalaji, a sacred pilgrimage center in Himachal Pradesh.

Dhanbad, in the state of Jharkhand. The Damodar and Barakar rivers flow
through Maithan, which is dotted with lakes and rolling green hills.
The biggest lake in Maithan is spread over 65 sq. km with an island
that houses a rest house. Lush green surroundings nestled in the
foothills of Parasnath hills, are a reservoir of rich flora and fauna.
The popular Maithan Dam, the biggest reservoir in Damodar valley is
located on the Damodar River. It boasts of the first underground power station in SE Asia.
Close to the dam is an ancient temple at Kalyaneshwari. Maithan has a
lot to offer tourists, from the dam to ancient heritage sites. Nature
