| Sightseeing:
The temple of Vadabhandeshwara enshrines the idol of Balarama and is visiated by hundreds of pilgrims. The other well-known temple is that of Ananteshwara.
Located at one of Malpe's rocky islands is the Daria-Bahadurgad fort built by Basavappa Nayaka of Bidanur. You could also visit the other rocky islands on it western side. Or take a boat ride to St Mary's Island where you can sight some fascinating volcanic rock formations. In fact, the whole island is an island of rocks.
For some religious sightseeing, visit the holy town of Udupi, also home to the great Sanskrit Philosopher, Madhavacharya. The temple to visit here is the Lord Krishna Temple.
Or you could head to the nearest city of Mangalore.

An idyllic beach town, Malpe is 10kms from the holy city of Udupi, and situated on the mouth of the River Udyavara. It was once an important port on the coast of Karnataka,
and has a never ending stretch of golden, untouched beach, dotted by
swaying palms, and with three rocky islands flanking its western part.
These Islands are Daria-Bahadurgad, on the northern most end, Daria-Gadara-Kallu in the middle and Kari Illada Kallu in the southern most part.
The main economic activity in Malpe is the fishing industry, and the next biggest industry is tile manufacturing. |
