Sightseeing Highlights:
A must-see is the Sindhudurg Fort, which was Maratha leader Shivajis main bastion and is an important place in Maratha history.
One can also visit the Malvan beach, which is one of the most commercially active beaches in the Konkan. It is buzzing with life at the jetty where most of the fishermen anchor their boats.
Chivia beach and surrounding stretches is the less crowded and cleaner beach.
Tarkarli beach is also a must see on the list for tourists and is one of the most popular beaches in the state.
Other Activities:
Further south lies Vengurla with its long stretch of white sands, and hills covered with cashew, coconut, jackfruit and mango groves and are often mentioned in history books as a trade settlement.
This area also has some beautiful beaches to explore. Mithbhav, Kunkeshwar (temple and beach) and Tambeldeg beaches are outstanding in Devgad. Located on the Konkan coast and wrapped by the Sahayadri ranges, lies Malvan,
one of the states most historical tourist attractions. Malvan is known
for its forts, beautiful beaches, and adventure activities. Old Malvan
was once an inner island and is now part of the mainland. This place
has two old and impressive forts- the Sindhudurg
and Padmagad. According to stories, both these forts once had an
underground tunnel joining them. An erstwhile trading center, Malvan is
now famous for its saltpans, Chinese clay pottery and its seafood-based
cuisine.
