Sightseeing highlights
The best
way to view wildlife in the park is by Jeep Safaris. You can cover the largest
area in this way. However, you must experience an elephant ride too, as this is
the best way to see close-up views of wildlife. Elephant rides are organised by
the park authorities from Mathanguri. Apart from sighting herds of elephants,
wild buffaloes, and variety of deer species, you can also see the tiger, golden
langur, hispid hare, pigmy hog, capped langur, Assamese macaque, slow loris,
hoolock gibbon, smooth Indian otter, sloth bear, barking deer, hog deer, sambar
and chital.
Manas National
Park is a great place for bird watching too. Interesting
species sighted here are giant hornbills, brahminy ducks, khaleej pheasants,
pelicans, fishing eagles, serpent eagles, falcons, scarlet minivets,
bee-eaters, pied hornbills, harriers and ospreys.
Other Activities
Take a boat ride down the Manas river to view
wildlife and birds, and simply enjoy the natural beauty. The ride starts from
Mathanguri and is 35 km downstream. |
