Mandya is located in the south east of Karnataka, while it shares it boundaries with Hassan, Mysore, Bangalore and Tumkur. The place has been named after the Sage Mandavya, who had performed penance on the land. The landscape is interspersed with hills and has five rivers flowing though it - Cauvery and its four tributaries, Hemavathi, Shimsha, Veeravaishnavi and Lokapavani.
