Highlights
The Sumendu Lake
is a major attraction of Mirik. There is a spectacular arched bridge spanning
the lake, which is 80 ft. long. Tourists enjoy boating and fishing here. Rameetay Dara is a popular
viewpoint from where one can get panoramic
views of the eastern Himalayas. The sunrise seen
from here is a special experience. Another view point offering equally stunning
views is Deosi Dara.
On the western bank of the lake is the Singha Devi temple, held in high esteem
by Hindus. It is also known as Debi Sthan. Rai
Dhap is a popular picnic spot among idyllic surroundings.

Activities
Visit the Thurbo Tea Estate, one of the best known in the area and only 2 km
from Mirik. Here you can take a tour of the factory to see the entire tea making
process.
Go
for pleasant walks in the meadows and collect wild flowers, carry along a bokk
of trees and flowers and identify the Alpine species found here. Adventure
lovers can even trek to Kurseong or Pashupatinath at the border of NepalMirik is a small and lesser-known hill-station 50 km from Darjeeling and 55 km from
Siliguri. It is centered around the picturesque Sumendu Lake
and is 1767 m above sea level. The scenic valleys of the Sing-lila hills, the
dense green pine forests, gushing mountain streams and orchards of orange and
cardamom, make this a captivating place for a relaxing vacation. The climate is
cool throughout the year, although winters get quite cold but enjoyable. Mirik
town is surrounded by rolling green tea plantations producing the world-famous Darjeeling tea. You can
enjoy walks in the plantations and orchards, while adventure lovers can go
trekking along the various routes. Mirik is also famous for its gardens and
nurseries, especially for rare varieties of orchid. The Mirik monastery is considered
to be a highly sacred place for the Buddhists of the region |
