Motihari,
Bihar is located in the East Champaran district
of Bihar. It is located 120 km. from the capital city of Patna. This small town traces its roots into
prominence when MahatmaGandhibegan his 'Satygrah' against Indigo plantation here. On April 10th,
1917, Mahatma Gandhi came in to fight for the freedom of the farmers and their
right to making a decent livelihood. Approximately
20 km. east of Motihari, Mahatma Gandhi opened the first BarharwaLakhansenSchool
which would serve as a pioneer to other schools that were built in the state of
Bihar. Mahatama Gandhi?s dedication was an
inspiration to the locals and today a stone pillar and a museum has been built to
honour Mahatma Gandhi. Motihari
is also famous for being the birthplace of one of the twentieth Century's
greatest writers - George Orwell. Although he was born in Motihari, his mother
a year after, took George to live in England. The
