Mudumalai is known for its magnificent herds of wild elephants. Besides this you can also see tiger, leopard, gaur, hyena, jackal, sloth bear, sambar, chital, wild boar, porcupine, giant flying squirrel, bonnet macaque, and langurs. Around 200 species of birds inhabit Mudumalai, among which are crested hawk eagles, crested serpent eagle, Malabar trogon, Malabar whistling thrush, large racket-tailed drongos, among others.
Activities:
Jungle safaris are the best way to explore the varied diversity of Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary. While elephant rides are extremely thrilling and give you a chance to get up close with the animals, jeep safaris are convenient and last longer.
You can also spend hours watching birds in this sanctuary or trying your hand at photography. Some camps around Mudumalai offer trekking and fishing, although that would not be allowed within the park limits.
