About Mudumalai Tourism
A part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and adjacent to BandipurNational Park and Wynad Sanctuary, Mudumalai is located on the tri-junction of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. It is one of South India's
richest wildlife sanctuaries in terms of bio-diversity, and part of it
is known as Masinagudi Sanctuary. Spread over an area of 321 sq. km, Mudumalai
has thick wooded hills, plateaus, deep valleys, waterfalls, and rivers.
Located at an altitude of 1,000 m, it is the closest to the Nilgiri
mountain range and is divided from Bandipur by the MoyarRiver. Mudumalai is one of the most important conservation efforts in India and was established as far back as 1940.
Animal Sightings:
Mudumalai
is known for its magnificent herds of wild elephants. Besides this you
can also see tiger, leopard, gaur, hyena, jackal, sloth bear, sambar,
chital, wild boar, porcupine, giant flying squirrel, bonnet macaque,
and langurs.Around 200 species of birds inhabit Mudumalai,
among which are crested hawk eagles, crested serpent eagle, Malabar
trogon, Malabar whistling thrush, large racket-tailed drongos, among
others.
