Muzaffarpur town is located 35 km from Vaishali on the banks of the River Burhi, in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar. It is known as the ?Lychee capital? of the country, surrounded by lychee orchards, and is one of the oldest trade centres of the state. It was founded by Muzaffar Khan, a revenue officer in the 18th century. Muzaffarpur, however, has a much older heritage and during 725-484 BC, the area covered by current Champaran, Darbhanga and Muzaffarpur was together known as Vaishali. It was the seat of power of the Lichchavi kingdom - the first Republic of India. Muzaffarpur has innumerable historical sites and monuments. There are a lot of Buddhist Viharas and places of interest related to Lord Buddha. The natural scenic locations and backdrop of the hills makes it an ideal travel destination.
