Nagapattinam itself has a long and clean beach that is one of its main attractions. Some of the activities here include beach volleyball, catamaran rides, amusement park and other recreational facilities. There are also many temples including the Amman and the Perumal temple. There is also the mini museum and a towering lighthouse near by.

Valankani, which lies about 12 km from here, has a famous basilica known as Our lady of Good Health church. The Pope has also declared this place as a holy city.
A major Islamic attraction is at Nagore, which houses a famous Sufi shrine and darga. Nagapattinam also has near it, the only Shani temple in India dedicated to planet Saturn.

Located in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, Nagapattinam district is quite unique and has a big cultural and historical significance.
