Located in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, Nagapattinam district is quite unique and has a big cultural and historical significance. The town itself is a coastal town along the Bay of Bengal, about 350 km from the capital, Chennai.
It is known for having one of the best harbors in the country and is
considered as a major pilgrimage centre having shrines of Hinduism,
Islam and Christianity in nearby areas. With a salt swamp near it, Nagapattinam is also considered, one of the most biodiverse regions of the country.

itself has a long and clean beach that is one of its main attractions.
Some of the activities here include beach volleyball, catamaran rides,
amusement park and other recreational facilities. There are also many
temples including the Amman and the Perumal temple. There is also the mini museum and a towering lighthouse near by.

Valankani,
which lies about 12 km from here, has a famous basilica known as Our
lady of Good Health church. The Pope has also declared this place as a
holy city.
