Nagaur Fort Tourism

Nagaur lies midway between the fortress city of Jodhpur and Bikaner in Rajasthan. A beautiful fort and some historic monuments dot the rustic town of Nagaur. Formerly known as Ahichhatrapur, this town was witness to the power struggles between the sultans of Delhi, Gujrat and Marwar. Originally inhabited by the Naga Rajputs, Nagaur changed many hands and was ruled by the Muslim rulers for several years. The town echoes with tales of valour of Amar Singh Rathore who died while fighting against the Mughals. Amar Singh was estranged from his own kingdom of Jodhpur, and Nagaur remembers its adopted hero with much pride. Today, Nagaur is famous for hosting one of the largest cattle fairs in Rajasthan where festivities and colour bring the otherwise sleepy town alive.
