The quaint little village of Naggar
is located in the Kullu district nestled in the hills, with the Beas river flowing on the Eastern side. Naggar is a
beautiful hamlet, which is fast turning to be a small township with breath
taking scenic beauty.
It is known for the vintage Naggar Castle
that holds a high status due to being the original capital of the Kullu Kingdom
more than 500 years ago. The palace is now converted into Himachal Tourism
restaurant and hotel. It provides a captivating view of the surrounding
villages and river water below. The snow peaks and villages that lie beyond the
Rohtang Pass can be seen on the clear days.
Above the village
of Naggar, on the top of a hill, is a stone
and wood temple
of Krishna Mandir. Although
no tourists are not allowed inside the temple, but foreigners are allowed to
see the areas around the temple.
Naggar was also the home of Gurudev
Nikolai Roerich, a widely known artist, who lived here all his life. At the
village edge, there is the Roerich gallery that displays some of the most
elegant oil paintings, the Dodge car from the 1930's made famous by Gurudev
Nikolai Roerich.
The village
of Naggar is the main starting spot of
the popular trek going to the Malana village, on the trekking path to awesome Chandrakhani Pass, during the trekking season. The picturesque
village of Naggar
and the surrounding areas including Chandrakhani
Pass have become eco
tourism hot spots with the adventure and water sports activities becoming very
popular in the recent years.
The added advantage of natural
scenic beauty, clean fresh mountain air and a peaceful ambience have led to
increasing tourists who opt to come to this tiny town at Naggar. |
