Nandankanan
is located in Khurda district of Orissa and is close to Bhubneshwar. It is just
the kind of place where both entertainment and wild-life are in abundance. With
a dense forest spread in an area of around 4.2 sq km, it is an amalgamation of botanical
garden, wildlife sanctuary, animal zoo, Kanjia Lake
and an Amusement Park. It is also known as the 'Garden Of Pleasure'
or Nandankanan, which is derived from 'Nandan Van' meaning- The Garden of God. The
famous Nandankanan zoo is one of the premier zoo in India. The zoo is spread in an area
of 3.62 sq. km. and is home to rare wild animals facing the threat of
extinction. It is housing nearly 1200 kinds of animals of different species.
The school at the zoo emphasizes on the study of holistic approach to the life
system and environmental conservation. The most popular destination inside the
zoo is the Aquarium that has a variety of rare species of fishes.
