Nizamabad is the largest commercial and trading centre in the district of the same name, in Andhra Pradesh. The city was named after the Nizam of Hyderabad, Asaf Jah VI in 1905 and it was called Indurpuri before that. In the medieval times, Nizamabad was ruled by the Rashtrakutas dynasty. In 1905 the British constructed an important railway line connecting Hyderabad and Mumbai that served as North-South corridor, with Nizamabad as a major station on the line. The National Highway No. 7, which connects Kanyakumari to Varanasi also runs through this city.
