Pali has witnessed the rise and fall of many dynasties from ancient times.  From Baalla desh, a democratic state of the Mahabharata Age, to the Kushanas, Harshavardhana, the Marwar state and the Mughals have all claimed ownership to this land. Pali is known for the sagas of its brave warriors and rich traditions. Pali gets its name from the Paliwal Brahmins who resided in these lands.

Located in  central  Rajasthan, Pali shares a common border with Jodhpur (70 km), Jalore, Sirohi, Udaipur, Rajasamand, Ajmer and Nagour districts.  Luni River and its tributaries Jawai, Mithadi, Sukadi, Bandi and Guhiabala flows through this district.
