The historic city, Panipat
is located 96 km. from Delhi
in the state of Haryana. The origins of the city have found mention in history
of India as it was the scene of three major battles that shaped the course of
events in the subcontinent first in the 16th and then in the 18th
century.Panipat is also believed
to be one among the five villages that the Panch Pandavas requested from
Duryodhan in exchange for lasting peace. It was an important centre for Sufi
saints, Muslim scholars and Moghal rulers. Apart from its historical
significance Panipat is also known for its handloom products, including Darris,
carpets, mats, curtain cloth and bed sheets, earning it the sobriquet 'City of
weavers'. As the biggest centre of 'shoddy yarn' in the world, and exporter of
handloom products to developed countries such as Japan,
Canada, Australia and Germany, Panipat has earned a pride
