Paradip is a port town located in Jagatsinghapur district of Orissa. Paradip is a primary sea port of India and handles a major volume of sea trade. Due to its importance as a vital commercial port, it has got an artificial harbor which handles sea traffic by man-made lagoons. In the recent years, it has become a major hub from the investment point of view and is focusing on the development of one of the five major Special Economic Zone planned by the Indian government. This city houses major steel plants, thermal power and petrochemical plants.Paradip port plays a major role in the flourishing sea borne trades for eastern states like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa and West Bengal. The port handles bulk cargos like coking coal, manganese ore, chrome ore, and thermal coal and has started trans-shipment of petroleum products since 1991. It is also famous for marine fishing and export related marine goods. The port is located inside an estuary, which provides problem free berthing-facility throughout the year.
