Sightseeing Highlights
The main attraction in Pavagdh is the famous temple of Goddess Mahakali that is located on the top of a hill. Pilgrims can either walk or use the ropeway facility, which also affords a fantastic view of the surrounding vistas and scenary. This temple is dedicated to an avatar of the Durga and is greatly revered by the locals and tourists.
A visit to Pavagadh should be combined with a tour of Champaner that it located at the foothills. Walking around the fortifications and enjoying its many archeological attractions are on a must-do list of all tourists.
Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park has many examples of historic and living cultural heritage properties including prehistoric sites, a hill fortress of an early Hindu capital, and remains of the 16th century capital of the state of Gujarat. These places also include fortifications, palaces, religious buildings, agricultural structures and water installations, from the 8th to the 14th centuries, which are all major tourist attractions.

Pavagadh offers fine scenic vistas, lakes, picturesque cable car rides and opportunities for trekking and rock climbing. The area also has many temples in the nearby areas that are worth visiting and make for an excellent temple tour.
Pavagadh is a hill station about 46 km from Vadodara and 190 km from Ahmedabad. It is situated in the Halol, Panchmahal district. According to legends, Pavagadh is the chunk of the Himalayas that was carried by Hanuman to Lanka. At its base lies the town of Champaner. Pavagadh along with Champaner and Marchi is a UNESCO world heritage site. The hill of Pavagadh rises from Champaner in three stages and this plateau lies at an altitude of 1,471 feet. Pavagadh is also known as the birthplace of Gujarat?s famous musician, Baiju Bawra. |
