Sightseeing Highlights
The large Race Course grounds in the heart of the city has Bal Bhavan, Children's Traffic Park, Fun World, and sports facilities, and is a good place for family outings. The Aji Dam has a step garden with an amusement park for children, a zoo, an aviary and a crocodile park. Watson Museum in Jubilee Gardens has a collection of archaeological artefacts.
Ishwariya Temple is good a picnic spot. Don't miss out on Mahatma Gandhi's home - Kaba Gandhino Delo. Lal Pari Lake is a popular outdoors spot. The famed Tarnetar fair, held annually to celebrate the legendary marriage of Arjuna and Draupadi attracts a lot of visitors.

You can go on excursions to Jadeshwar (60 km), Virpur (64 km), Bhid Bhanjan (60 km), Manas Mandir (14 km), Gondal (38 km) and Wankaner (50 km). Shoppers, do visit Soni-Bazar, the largest gold market in the state.

Founded by Vibhoji Ajoji Jadeja of the Jadeja clan in 1612, Rajkot was the capital of Saurashtra. Centrally located in the Kathiawar peninsula in Gujarat, it is drained by the Aji River that flows through the district. The Gandhian non-violence movement had its roots here. An industrial and commercial town, Rajkot is known for its manufacturing, jewellery, woollen and cotton textiles, silk embroidery, handicrafts and bandhni textiles. |
