Sightseeing Highlights
The Ranchi Museum has a rich collection of tribal artifacts, tools and coins from excavations in the state.
The Ranchi Lake is beautiful and has boating facilities. The Rock Garden and Deer Park are also worth a visit.
The Jagannath Temple was constructed in the 17th century and is located on top of a hill. It has a similar architectural style as the Puri temples.
Just 45 km away from Ranchi are the Hundru Falls. These are formed by the fast flowing River Subarnarekha as it plunges down a cliff. It is a popular picnic spot.
Other popular waterfalls in the area are Hirni Falls, Dassam Falls and Jonha Falls.
Rajappa Mandir dedicated to the Goddess Kali, is also known as Chhinnamasta and is located 65 km from Ranchi. Around the temple there are some good picnic spots.
Visit the Surya Temple, just 38 km from Ranchi. It is known for the intricate carvings and beautiful idols. Other temples of importance include Dewri temple and Bhawani Devi Mandir.
A major Jain pilgrimage center, Shikharjee or Parasnath temple in the Giridih district, 200 km from Ranchi, is known as the place where 20 Trithankas attained salvation.
The Ramakrishna Mission is located in Ranchi and attracts many tourists.
Other Activities
To get a feel of the British Raj, visit McCluskiegunj, a small town 40 km away from Ranchi that reminds one of the by-gone days.

Ranchi is the capital of the newly founded state of Jharkhand. It is located in the Chhotanagpur valley at an altitude of 2,150 feet above sea level. The picture perfect location includes waterfalls, hills, and lush green valleys. Its cool climate and various attractions of historical importance make it a popular tourist destination. Ranchi used to be the summer capital and health resort of Bihar state with its scenic surroundings and crisp mountain air.

The extensive forests around Ranchi have Sal, Kend, Mahua and other trees, and are home to a multitude of animals such as bear, chital, nilgai, wild cats, wolves, leopard, and small animals.
