About Ratnagiri Tourism
Ratnagiri is located in the Konkan region, along the southwestern part of Maharashtra on the Arabian Sea Coast. It lies surrounded by the Sahyadri ranges and was once the administrative capital of the Bijapur rulers. Ratnagiri
is also one of the important ports of the Konkan coast. It has a palace
where the last king of Burma, Thibaw, and later Veer Savarkar, the
freedom fighter were confined.
Sightseeing Highlights:
Some of the main attractions of Ratnagiri include the Parashuram Temple; Pawas ashram, which was the home of the great Swami Swaroopanand; and caves of Chiplun. The
Ratnadurg fort which was built by the Bahamanis, and later captured by
Shivaji, is also a popular place. It lies on the seashore and is
surrounded by the water during high tide. It has an ancient temple
called the Bhagwati Mandir
