About 16
km away is the lush green Temi Tea Garden,
the only tea estate of Sikkim. Trek from Dentham for Tendon National Park which has a dormant volcano and the
most beautiful view of the mountains and the plains below.
The Rayong Viewpoint is the best place to
view the mesmerizing sunrise and sunsets. Visit the Ralang Hot Springs, about 26 km from Ravangla on the banks of the
river Rangit. These springs are known for their curative properties and on the
way is the Ralagh Monastery, which
was built in 1768. The worship of Mt. Kanchenjunga
or Pang Lhabsol and the Kagyed Chaam or masked dance is held annually. A must-see
is the Tashiding Monastery, just 39
km from Ravangla, which was built in 1716. It holds the sacred' Bumchu' Water
Festival annually.
The popular trekking destinations
are Tendong (8,500 ft.) and Menam (10,800 ft.)
through the forests of chestnut, magnolia and rhododendron. Menam has a
traditional site where the monks meditate and it is the perfect location to see
a magnificent view of the area.
Other activities
You can go
bird watching in the close-by Damtang forest or explore the Menam Wildlife
sanctuary to view the rare red panda and other animals in their natural
surroundings. Hiking, trekking and outdoor sports are top on the list for
adventure lovers, while others can shop for handicrafts and enjoy the scenic
beauty. Ravangla
is a tiny hamlet tucked away between Tendong and Menam peaks in the Southern
district of Sikkim, 120 km from Siliguri. Nestled at the foot of Mt. Narsing,
Ravangla is the perfect destination for adventure seekers with its the rugged
terrain, verdant thick forests and magnificent landscape, combined with cool
alpine climate.
It is amongst
the chief places in Sikkim
which provide a clear view of the Kanchenjunga range, including Mt. Pandim, Mt. Kabru
and Mt. Sinialchu. During winters, Ravangla
experiences heavy snowfalls; while the spring brings a riot of colors with a
multitude of unique orchids and high altitude flowers in full bloom. The dense
forests are home to numerous rare birds and animals especially found in the
jungles of oak, magnolia and rhododendron. Ravangla has gained importance as a
transit place for tourists on their way to Yuksam, Pemayangtse and trekkers or hikers
aspiring to scale Menam peak.
