| About Rudraprayag Tourism |
Set amidst the rugged mountains of the Garhwal Himlayas, the small town of Rudraprayag is the junction where the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers meet, making it a pilgrimage spot of great significance. The town's location on the river banks is most remarkable and awe-inspiring feature. Temples,
ghats and ashrams, are busy centres of activity where worshippers come
to pray and take a dip in the chilly waters of the sacred rivers. Rudraprayag
is named after Lord Shiva, also known as Rudra, and as such has great
religious significance. It is believed that it was here that the
mischief making sage Narad Muni prayed to Shiva, who then appeared in
his Rudra personification to bless the saint. Adding to the town's
importance is the presence of two roads heading towards the holy
shrines of Kedarnath and Badrinath.
