About Sonepur Tourism
Sonepur is located in Saran district of Bihar, 22 km away from Patna, at the confluence of two mighty rivers, Ganges and Gandak. It is a small town set in picturesque surroundings, close to Mahatma Gandhi Setu, the longest bridge in Asia. Sonepur is famous for hosting the special three-week cattle fair (Asias largest fair of its kind) in the month of November. This fair is held every year on Kartik Purnima on the banks of the river Ganga. In this fair all kinds of working animals, from elephants to camels, cattle and goats, are all bought and sold. As a tradition the livestock are decorated and painted making them look very festive. A myriad of colours, music and dance is the major attraction in Sonepur drawing tourists from all over Indian and abroad.
