Located in the Satpura ranges of the Western Ghats, Toranmal is at an altitude of 1461m. It is a small plateau, which is cut from south to north by a stream. It is known as the second coolest hill station in the state and is covered by dense forests. Toranmal is a predominently tribal area.It is said to have got its name from the goddess Torana whose temple is located at the top of the hills and is worshipped by the tribals. Historically Toranmal plateau was once the seat of the Mandu rulers from Madhya Pradesh.
