Sightseeing Highlights:

Chapora Fort is the main attraction of this beach. Built in 1717 by the Portuguese to face the onslaught of the Maratha Army, it stands at the estuary of the Chapora River. It is a fantastic place for panoramic views (remember Dil Chahata Hai?)

Shiv Murti is not an ancient holy statue as you might think, but an enormous face of Shiva carved out of a rock by some hippie from the decades gone past.

Fresh water springs are in the northern part of the beach. One of the springs gushes out of the red rocks 100 m from the beach, while the other is past the village and in Ozrant beach, at the base of a hillock.

Other Activities:

Visit the Chapora fishing jetty and watch the fishermen busy at work. Try your hand at a bit of angling too. Hire a boat and head out for a river cruise or dolphin spotting trip.

A short distance north of Anjuna Beach, Vagator is dominated by the Chapora Fort that sits atop a hill in the backdrop of the beach. Anjuna has become jaded and over-crowded now. Thus Vagator  comes as a breath of fresh air, with the red laterite rocks rising steeply from the sands. Swimming is safe in North Vagator beach, but gets tricky in the southern part (also known as Ozrant) due to these very rocks that affect the currents in the sea.

This beach is a favourite with Israeli tourists, thus a small central portion of it is called Tel Aviv Beach. The seafront is dotted with shacks and juice bars, many serving Israeli and Continental food. The frequent rave parties and all night revelry, makes this place unsuitable for families or those who do not enjoy such activities.
