Sightseeing Highlights:
Neighbouring beaches worth visiting are Calangute and Benaulim. For rave lovers, hit Anjuna beach.
If you want to head out further, you could go to Madgao city. Visit the Holy Spirit Church, St Sebastian chapel and the famous Damodar Temple. Shopping at Madgaon market is a colourful experience.
Take a tour of South Goa covering the Old Goa Churches such as Basilica of Bom Jesus and Se Cathedral.
Explore the colonial mansions at Loutolim, filled to the brim with antique furniture, paintings, chandeliers and more.
Activities:
Apart from sun-bathing and swimming, you can go for boat trips and try your luck for dolphin watching. A boat ride on the River Sal is a memorable experience.
Another interesting activity, if you are game, is the famous bullfight at Benaulim. Not quite Barcelona style, but our very own desi version. It takes place between October and May, in the midst of rice fields dancing to the tune of Konkani music and promises some unconventional fun.

Varca is one of the longest stretches of beach in Salcete, 2km south of Benaulim, in South Goa. The white sands are clean and unpolluted, and this is the place to be if you seek quiet solitude. Varca has several luxury hotels and large resorts, each with their own private patch of beach. The rest of the beach is dotted by small shacks that come up in the season. The mid-range accommodation and home stays are available at the village.
Also a traditional fishing village, you see many fishing boats parked on the sands. The thatched long-houses of the fisherman shaded by palm trees, adds to the beauty of the surroundings. The adjoining beach of Fatrade is known as one of the most secluded beaches of Goa. |
