Once an anonymous little fishing village in the Eastern Ghats, overlooking the Bay of Bengal, Vishakapatnam or Vizag, has risen to become one of the country's busiest commercial ports and largest shipbuilding yard. The
seaside town has seen the might and power of several ancient dynasties-the Chalukyas and the Cholas who had already played a pivotal role
in King Ashoka's seafaring activities in Kalinga (Orissa of today) - as
a major port in the Maurya kingdom of which it had become a part in 250
BC. The Vijaynagar kings found it a strategic point in their trading
activities and later the British used it for enhancing their trading
fortunes.

Excellent taj vizag
| Overview of the destinationVizag is an excellent tourist spot, specially for weekenders. It has convenient transportation of all mode. Wonderful beaches..and excellent accommodations Food, sight-seeing and shopping all types of foods are available in vizag Activities & things to do sight seeing, cruise, cable car riding and excellent shopping plazas are there Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. as a whole the people of vizag are more or less honest, but u should be careful of auto rickshaws | Niranjan, Hyderabad | 1st May 2007

 Regaring Vizag visit | | Hi all,
Im planning to visit Vizag in the month of Dec for a duration of 3-4 days. can anyone give me the list of places and beaches to be visited there. Also please furnish me the details of accomodation and food(esp Vegetarian). Im more inclined for beach visits.
I would be greatful for this info.
