About Wankaner Tourism
Located on the Peninsula of Saurashtra and in the middle of an island, Wankaner is a small town about 48 km from Rajkot. It gets its name from the two words'Wanka' meaning a bend and 'ner' meaning water stream in Gujarati. Thus Wankaner literally means a bend on the stream, as it is located on the bend of the MachchhuRiver. Wankaner
was a princely state ruled by the Jhala Rajput clan and it was one of
the four princely states of Jhalawad. It was under the rule of King
Amarsinhji, that 5 palaces and many bungalows were built and named
after the rulers of the princely States of Kutch, Rajkot, Mayurbhanj and Jamnagar. Wankaner still showcases the heritage from those long gone royal days.
