This unspoilt expanse of virgin rainforests in the Western Ghats in northeastern Kerala, (south of Coorg) is bordered by the Nagarhole National Park, Bandipur National Park and Mudumalai. The misty environs of Wayanad offer a wide range of trekking opportunities, plantation visits and wildlife tours. It
was at Mananthavady (35km N) that Lord Arthur Wellesley fought a
guerilla war with the Pazhassi Raja and British supremacy marked the
region for two centuries. The state of Kerala was created in 1956; the southern region of Wayanad which was part of Cannannore district was attached to Kozhikode district. In 1980 the Wayanad region was amalgamated out of the districts of Kannur and Kozhikode and comprised the three taluks of Manathavady, Sultan Bathery and Vythiry. Kalpetta
the region's district headquarters (15 km N), used to be a major Jain

| Overview of the destinationTucked away in a quiet corner off Kakavoyal near Sulthan Bathery, this region has water falls, dams and lakes, forests, hills, caves, rivers with Food, sight-seeing and shopping DIY food here! Excellent traditional breakfasts and dinners at Aashwas of course. Activities & things to do Edakkal caves are a busy tourist spot with some challenging but rewarding climbing up steep rocky slopes with excellent views at the top.
