Best Season / Best Time to Visit Agumbe

Agumbe is scenic village located close to the Shimoga district, Karnataka. Situated at an altitude of about 249 m above sea level, it is a part of the western ghat belt. Agumbe is dubbed as the ?Cherrapunji of the south? because of the high amounts of rainfall it receives. The second highest amount of rainfall in India is recorded here. It is also the home of the only permanent rainforest research station in India- the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station, Agumbe, being a popular hill station of the south, does not have varied temperature like the rest of the western ghat region since it is close to the coast. It has a cool and pleasant climate for most parts of the year. The summer season, which lasts through March April and May, is quite dry and hot. The temperature varies around the range of 30 to 35? Celsius and is not the most advisable time to visit the place for tourists who are from more temperate zones. The winter season, which starts late December and lasts till February, is pleasant and mild. The temperature goes as low as 18? Celsius and the weather is pleasantly cold. The monsoon season lasts from June to September and receives heavy rainfall. The oppressive heat and humidity during the monsoon season is not the best time for the inexperienced traveller to visit. However, the beautiful waterfalls surrounding Agumbe such as Kunchikal, Barkana and Onake Abbi, look the most majestic at this time. The most ideal time for tourists to Agumbe is post-monsoon season and winter. The mild and dry weather around this time is perfect for hiking and viewing the rain forest. And accommodation is available year round with ease.
