"Vertical city"

Aizawl Experience: A quaint city built on a mountain side describes this place. The city teams with the tiny Maruti 800's but there is a semblence of orderliness which is not usually seen in India regarding the traffic. No one overtakes. They wait patiently in long lines. Quite clean. Commuting takes time. The city closes by 5pm so be sure to get your stuff earlier.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Bara bazaar is a maze in 3 levels with all sorts of shops. Different areas for different articles. Not worth spending too much of time unless you are from Mizoram and want your essentials. But you can spend 1 to 2 hrs just to acquaint yourself. Do not waste your time visiting the Luangmual Handicraft centre. This is only a training centre. The said Mizo caps are available in the city. It's just a 5 min walk from the International Youth Hostel. There are many small restaurants around and in the Bara bazaar, Zion street and Temple Square region which give decent food.
Activities & things to do: The Mizoran State Museum is quite well set out and organised. Worth at least 1 hr of your time to just have a glimpse of the life of Mizos. Plan your travel early in the day to beat the traffic. Go to Bung, Berquthlang Tourist Complex keeping 1/2 a day for it.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Fly in from Kolkata or Gawhati. Road travel is too long and cumbersome due to poor road conditions. Expect landslides even during the dry seasons.
