About Bagdogra Tourism

Bagdogra is a small town located in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal. It is at a distance of about 93 km from Darjeeling, a Himalayan town, which is one of the most popular hill stations in India. Being a part of the tea cultivation region, this place is surrounded by lush green tea gardens. This place is popular because it offers views of the eastern Himalayan Mountains. The Teesta River flows close by this town, which offers water activities such as river rafting and fishing. Bagdogra well preserves its age old rich culture and tradition. There are several festivals, which are celebrated with zest, the Gangasagar Mela being one of them. This Mela is arranged at Sagar Dwip during the time of Makar Sankranti. Pilgrims from all over the country and abroad come in large numbers during this time of the year, to take a dip at the merging point of the holy River Ganga and the Bay of Bengal. The other prominent festivals celebrated in this region include the Kenduli Mela, Vasanta Utsav, Jalpesh Mela and Naba Barsho, which means New Year. Bagdogra is easily accessible because it has an international airport, which is the only airport in the North Bengal region. At the same time, it is well connected to the rest of the country by railways. While visiting this place, tourists can also visit popular destinations such as Darjeeling and Kalimpong, which are at short distances from this town. One of the major attractions in Darjeeling is the Tiger Hill, which is at an altitude of about 2590 metres. This place offers great views of Mount Everest, along with the Kanchenjunga range. Other interesting places to be visited in Darjeeling include Batasia Loop, War Memorial, Japanese Peace Pagoda, Dhirdham Temple, the Mall and Chowrasta. Kalimpong, which is located at a distance of about 80 km from Bagdogra, is popular because of the numerous Buddhist monasteries located here. "A stay in bagdogra"

Bagdogra Experience: Well Bagdogra is just 1 km from the airport, i visited Bagdogra as i had to catch an early morning flight while returning back from gangtok, i found this place very quiet and peaceful, with no noise of the oustide world, pollution free, a place where i would like to relax and breathe fresh air.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Good food in restaurant named pavillion which is in orbit hotel bagdogra, there is not much scope of shopping here, just the local stuffs, there is view of tea garden nearby, i didnot leave my hotel much , so i dont know much about the sight seeing.

Activities & things to do: Peaceful place to relax, the hotel i stayed in orbit hotel bagdogra, they give activas and deos for hire to roam around the place, this was the best thing i did.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: You can reach Bagdogra very easily as it is also the name of the airport which is just 1km from the place. So very convient to find out about it, information available on google, also its near siliguri , you can refer google maps.

"Pilgrimage cum Holiday"

Bagdogra Experience: I enjoyed my visit to Badrinath recently along with my family. The destination indeed is a pilgrimage coupled wth holiday site. What a breathtaking view the place offers to the tourists and it's worth the effort one puts to reach the place

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Vegetarian food and milk aplenty. It offers the tourist scenic beauty at Auli, Joshimath and Tapovan. Must spend 3/4 days to enjoy the surroundings

Activities & things to do: Skiing at Auli if possible. The ropeway ride is a must to get maximum pleasure. Hot Spring bath is another enjoyable experience

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: You can reach the place via Delhi, Haridwar, Rishikesh. One should take winterweat aplenty

Tourist places in Bagdogra

The airport town of Bagdogra has limited places of attraction. However, Siliguri which is in proximity of Bagdogra offers quite a lot of attractions along with other things to do as well.

Some of the important attractions are the Salugara Monastery which has a 100 foot stupa that was blessed by the late Kalu Rimpoche. There is also the ISKCON temple managed by the Hare Krishna Movement which houses idols of Lord Narasimha, Advaita Acharya, Lord Chaitanya and others.

Besides, there are other places of attractions too, like the Sevoke Kali Mandir in Sevoke, the Coronation Bridge, Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary in Sukna, Kalchakra Monastery in Salugara and The Science City at Matigara among others.

Perhaps, the biggest attraction for tourists travelling to Bagdogra is the hill station Darjeeling. Darjeeling offers plenty of sightseeing options like the Tiger Hills, situated around 11 km from Darjeeling. Travellers can also visit the jungles of Dooars like Chapramari, Gorumara, Jaldapara from Bagdogra.
