Bareilly Experience: Bareilly pronunciation (Hindi: बरेली, Urdu: باریلی) is a metro city in Bareilly district in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Standing on the Ramganga river, it is the capital of Rohilkhand Division and is a center for the manufacture of furniture and for trade in cotton, grain, and sugar. The city’s population in 2001[1] was 699,839. Geographically it forms the outer gateway to enter Uttarakhand State. Bareilly is the 4th city of Uttar Pradesh which has CNG fuel stations, after Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra. Bareilly is the 7th largest metropolitan city of Uttar Pradesh and 50th largest metropolitan city of India.This fast-growing city is also known as Bans-Bareilly, due to its big bamboo market. Bareilly is also known as the counter-magnet city because it is equidistant from New Delhi and Lucknow and has a lot of potential for setting up industries to attract people to settle.It is one of the biggest city of Uttar Pradesh state. Historically it was the part of the ancient kingdom of Panchal. In the Medieval period it was under the Rohillas. The modern city’s foundation was laid by Mukrand Rai in 1657.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: The city is known for its many temples and there are many religious sites which are located all around the city. There are four main Shiva Temples that are located in the four corners of the city and these are known as Dopeswarnath, Madhinath, Trivatinath and Alaknath. There is a Ganga Temple that is also present in the city and it is worth visiting. Bankey Mandir and Chunne Miyan Mandir are also important temples in the city of Bareilly. Some other religious sites are the Darga Hazrat, the Church of North India, the Christ Methodist Church, Bibi Ji ki Masjid and Sri Sai Mandi. Those who are interested in history can visit the two main museums in the city, and these are the Panchala Museum and the Army Service Corps Museum. The Ramnagar Fort is located around 25 km from the place and it is a popular place to visit as well. The Bareilly Bazaar offers an excellent shopping experience and it worth visiting. There are two amusement parks in Bareilly as well.
Activities & things to do: Tapovan is one of the main tourist attractions near Bareilly situated in the state of Uttaranchal. It is well known for its hot springs, which are believed to possess amazing and miraculous healing powers. Roop Kund, a mysterious lake, is located here. Pithoragarh is another tourist attraction that you need to make sure that you visit. Here there are rivers through flow from glaciers. These rivers are great places to go rafting or canoeing on. Pithoragarh is the most well known for its festivals and religious ceremonies that it holds every year. Here you will find both peace and serenity of the rivers, as well as amusement from the festivals- all of which you are bound to enjoy. Another big tourist attraction that is near Bareilly is Dehradun. This town lies in the foothills of the Himalayan mountains. One of the most noted places to visit while you are in Dehradun is the Forest Research Institute, along with Rajaji National Park. As you can see, there are many places that you should visit that are located around Bareilly. Whether you visit Bareilly or if you live in Bareilly, you should be sure to check at least some of these places out, as you will be sure to enjoy them.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: By Rail/Train Bareilly falls on the busy Delhi-Kolkata line and is therefore well connected to most of the destinations in Uttar Pradesh and India. The main railway station in Bareilly is Bareilly Cantonment Junction. The junction is well connected to cities like New Delhi, Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Benaras, Jaipur, Kolkata and Mumbai through a cluster of super fast and express trains. By Road Bareilly is well connected to cities in Uttar Pradesh and around through a network of National and State Highways. The city has regular buses to destinations like Jaipur, Agra, Mathura, Ghaziabad, New Delhi, Lucknow and Varanasi. Both Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation as well as private parties ply buses to and from the city.
