About Baroda Vadodara Tourism
Vadodara, also known as Baroda, is one of the popular cities in Gujarat along with Ahmedabad and Surat. The city is located on the banks of the Vishwamitri River, the water stream named after rishi Vishwamitra. Located at a distance of 120 km from Ahmedabad, the city is one of the important centres of western India.

The name Vadodara is a dedication to its former ruler, Sayajirao Gaekwad III (1875-1939 AD). It was called as Chandravati, after its ruler Raja Chandan, then Viravati, which means ‘house of the brave’ and Vadpatra, as it featured plenty of banyan trees. The present name of Vadodara originated from Vadpatra.

According to historians, Vadodara's history is over 2,000 years old and the city has been ruled by Hindus, Pathans, Mughals and Marathas. The city houses different language speaking populace such as Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi and English.

Baroda saw the settlement of traders during 812 AD and was dominated by the Hindu kings until 1297. During the early years of the Christian era, the town was ruled by the Gupta Empire and was taken over by the Chalukya Dynasty. With the spread of Muslim rule in the country, the city was ruled by the Delhi Sultans who were later overthrown by Mughal emperors. Finally, the Marathas took over the region from the Mughals.

The best way to get around Vadodara is by an auto rickshaw. Apart from exploring tourist hotspots like the Laxmi Vilas Palace, Pratap Vilas Palace, Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum, Aurobindo Ashram and the Walled city among other attractions, tourists can also visit the MG University, which has made Vadodara one of the most sought-after educational hubs in the country.

Tourists visiting Vadodara can also visit the various shopping malls the city boasts of or indulge in some street shopping. They can shop for handicrafts, textiles and leather products from the various bazaars in the city, especially Nava Bazaar. As for eating out, apart from restaurants, street food available near MS University is worth a try. Hawkers serving egg dishes, vada pav and Indian-Chinese delicacies are quite renowned.

As the geographical location of the city is close to the Thar Desert, the city has tropical savannah climatic conditions. The summer temperature ranges from 45⁰ Celsius to 24⁰ Celsius. On the other hand, the winter temperature ranges between 31⁰ Celsius and 11⁰ Celsius. Keeping weather conditions in mind, the ideal time to visit Baroda is during March and April.

"VADODARA AS A TOURIST DESTINATION"

Baroda(Vadodara) Experience: The Laxmi vilas palace is definately worth a vist . it is a masterpiece. Champaner about 80 km away tragic that it is neither advertised nor maintained as another real jewel of the past . it was realy depressing to see some parts of it being vandalised by photo happy Gujarathis to have climbing centuries old structures , in the bargain destroying them . we indians are blind we do not respect our past heritage.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: the mutton siek kababbs just 50 m down the street for ginger hotel , were by far the best i have ever eaten , a big bundle full for 50 bucks , unbeliveble both for taste and price
Activities & things to do: historically gujarat is rich .
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: We were driving form Goa to Gir, so after an overningt at mumbai , we stopped at vadodara, took 5 hours from mumbai , excelent roads .

Tourist places in Baroda Vadodara

India has always been known for its rich history, and so has been the city of Vadodara that has been ruled by Hindus, Marathas and Mughals. The rich heritage of this city is evident from its beautiful palaces, temples, museums and other ancient buildings. A historian’s paradise, Vadodara has several places of interest that lure tourists towards the cultural capital of Gujarat.

One of the most popular attractions in Vadodara is Sayaji Baug, which is the largest garden in western India. The garden itself houses varied attractions such as the Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery, the Sardar Patel Planetarium, the Sayaji Baug Zoo and Aquarium and the Floral Clock. Another heritage site that is often frequented by tourists in Vadodara is the Maharaja Sayajirao University, particularly the faculty of Arts in MSU.

Laxmi Vilas Palace is another heritage site that is extremely famous among tourists, mainly for its Darbar Hall and Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum. There are many other palaces that depict the rich history and culture of Vadodara, such as Lal Baug, the Nazarbaug Palace and the Makarpura Palace. Mandvi Gate, Lehripura Gate and Raopura Tower are other historical places popular among tourists visiting Vadodara.

Other heritage sites that have gained prominence in the city are Tambekar Wada, Aurobindo Ashram and Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Gruh. Khanderao Market, a palatial building in Vadodara, is also popular among travellers mainly for shopping purposes. Leisure travellers in the city can also make a visit to the Nimeta Garden and the Sayajigunj Circle, or even take a stroll amidst nature along the Sursagar Lake and Sayaji Sarovar.

The city also poses a number of religious attractions like EME Temple, Kirti Mandir, Nyaya Mandir and Surya Mandir and is thus particularly popular among Hindu pilgrims. Being ruled by Mughals, Vadodara also houses a mausoleum known as Qutbuddin Hajira. Other than these, tourists on a multi-day trip to Vadodara can also plan to visit the Kothi Kacheri or the old but beautiful havelis in Narsinh ni Pol, Jagmal ni Pol and Dala Patel ni Pol.
