Bhimashanker Reviews

Bhimashanker Experience: Fantastic place to login. Location is heaven for nature lovers. Food is ok. Service is pretty good. Buffet Dinner Rs. 180 was not worth the cost. Very limited option for Break-fast. Buffet Break fast for Rs.70/- also not value for money. Infact the whole area around Bhimashankar is deprived of a good food joint or snack bar (was sick of Kande-Poha in the whole stay). . Bargain for Cottage charges, we managed a discount of Rs. 200/- (wow). No intercom so will have to order by driving down to the restaurant or walkathon. Petrol station is 50 Kms from Temple so ensure full tank. Luckily ATMs are there.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Pl carry kurkure and Uncle Chips or else dump Kande-poha in your gullet.
Activities & things to do: Early morning walk. Drive thru the Jungle we spotted deer and Gaint Squirrel.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Only car travel is OK.

"Travel to a Jyotirling"

Bhimashanker Experience: I had avisit to Sri Bhimasankar, about 160 kms from Pune of Maharastra state, in 1st week of February this year.It is a must see for the Shiva devottees in perticular and God and nature lovers in general. The temple is located in a place which is sorrounded by natural hills and forests. The is a calm and quite place, befitting to be a God's abode.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Good resturants are not available at the site, but one can relish hot pakoda, buta and fruits and tea after a visit of the deity.Small village hotels are available ,which can catter to the emergent needs.Good resturants, both veg & non- veg are available by the side of road leading to Pune.
Activities & things to do: Main purpose is to pay homage to Lord Shivasankar, who is the presiding deity. The temple is a magnificient one with architectural marvel. Also in the campus one can pay homage to Si Sani Dev and Sriram. If you go in lean season you can even touch The Jyotirling,as I deed. The priests are very good and donot ask for money. After visiting temple you can sit on a step, which are plenty, and enjoy the hills, forests and birds.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Better visit in a lean season for a close look of the G0d,avoid festival times.we hired a nona/c indica from Pune and it takes 3hrs to reach there. You will enjoy the ghat roads and flora-fauna on the way.The taxi charge was 2300 rupees .It took 10 hrs to be back at Pune.

"Visit to a Jyotirlinga"

Bhimashanker Experience: Bhimashankar is one of the 12 jyotirlings, which the Shiva divotees in particular and all GOD and nature lovers in general like to visit. It is a calm, beautiful place, around 160 kms from Pune city of Maharastra state. The place is surrounded by natural forest and hills.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: You have to visit the place to believe its natural beauty. You will naturally visit Lord Bhimashankar, the presiding deity. The temple is an architectural marvel .Also you can pay homage to Lord Shani dev and Sriram in the campus. There are not so good resturants in the place, but you can have hot pakoda and buta(corn) and tea.Small eating places are there to meet imergent needs, but there are good resturants, both veg & non-veg on the way to Pune.
Activities & things to do: The main thing we naturally have to do is to offer prayers to Sri Bhimasankar. you can well touch the Lingam and pay homage. The priests are good and do not ask for money. On the steps ,there are a lot of them, you can sit and enjoy the natural beauty of forest, hillocks and chirping birds.we had not much time in hand ,so restricted our stay there for 3hrs.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Best time to visit in lean season and avoid festivities, when there is heavy rush, which we generally do ,as we are both senior citizens and having ailments. Better hire a taxi from Pune and go there.it takes about 3hrs to reach there in plain and ghat roads.Taxi cost about 2300 for a non a/c indica to and fro ,for completing journey in about 10hrs.we visited the place on 4-2-2012

"Peaceful Pilgrimage"

Bhimashanker Experience: A nice, peaceful place with abundant natural beauty.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: There is only one hotel-Blue Mormon Jungle Resort-around 10-11kms from the temple town-Bhimashankar.There is no other place worth stay in the area though a few are in pipeline. The resort was good and peaceful though requires some improvement.Lack of some facilities is more than compensated by cordial and good behaviour of the staff. The on-duty in-charge Rahul was always there with a smiling face to take care.We are veg and good veg food as per our order was freshly prepared and served.. The temple is in a very peaceful location and one can offer puja without any disturbance.
Activities & things to do: Visit to temple and adjoining forest.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Approx 135 kms from Pune.We booked a car which we retained for our overnight stay.

"Bhimashankar A Joytirlinga"

Bhimashanker Experience: The Bhimashankar is one of very important Hindu Pilgrimage. It is one of 12 Joytirlinga. It is having very scenic beauty and surrounded by hills. The area is having dense forest. The Lord Shiva Temple is located in valley of Sahyadri hills. The Distance form Mumbai ( Dadar) is Approximately 240 Kms. One can enjoy a trip to Bhima Shankat in the rainy season. It take approximately 6 to 7 hours to reach to BHima Shankar by Road.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: A few small eatery out let are available in the vicinity of Temple.Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary is located here and MTDC and many other hotel are available for stay
Activities & things to do: Like in other hill station many point are identified by locals which can be visited by person.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: The most convenient way to reach the Temple is by Road.Pune is nearest railway station and also a Airport .Mumbai ( dadar ) by Road is approx. 240 km. While Visiting the Area in rainy Season one should keep extra clothing and good quality rain coat and showers are very heavy and Umbrella is of No use. Dry Tit bits if traveling with kids as not many good food outlets are available.

"Visit to one of Jyotirlinga's"

Bhimashanker Experience: This is more than a religious place as it is surrounded by dense forest and hills. I visited in monsoon and felt like walking on clouds as the fog covers up the hilly road.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: As it is a religious place there are many shops selling all items of puja and prasadam. You may find some decorative items, if you explore more. But one should not waste time in these shopping, you can find these items any religious place elsewhere. You should spend more time exploring scenic locations.
Activities & things to do: Spledid location for trekkers in the monsoon and winter. In winter one should have heavy clothing. Even in monsoon it is very cold.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: One can reach by bus or hired taxi's from Mumbai (220 Kms) and Pune (around 100 Kms). There so many taxi's ply to and fro to Pune everyday. There are some state runned buses also run from Pune. One should carry food as there is no proper arrangements for food and even no decent restaurant nearby.

"Excellent Destination: Bhimashanker"

Bhimashanker Experience: Visited on November 1, 2009. One of the oldest Shiv Temple, though it is renovated. If you are a travelbug and lots of interest in Driving, please visit this place. Roads are nice.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Have not tried food there, so no comments. However, on the way to Bhimashanker, you may get lots of road side garden restaurants, I think those are veg. Point to be noted here is, the restaurants are not near Bhimashanker, it is near Ghodegaon roughly around 20 k.m. from Bhimashanker. So, advice here is to adjust your time accordingly.
Activities & things to do: First thing, is to do Darshan. I recommend you go on that Jungle trail, which is excellent. I was travelling with my Father-in-law, Brother-in-law and two kids (one is infant) and my wife. I will bet you, you will be scared at some point with the dense forest. However, it is totally, safe. You will find some animal (I do not know the name it is a variant of Lemur), on the trees.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: I travelled from Pune, near NDA. So started with Pune-Bangalore highway (NH 4) and took a left turn at Chandini chowk, took University road. Went inside Pune University and took the University out road and from there took immediate right turn and caught the Pune Nasik Highway (NH 50) from Nasik Phata. Straight way went towards nasik and took a left turn at Peth instead of Mancher. I took it by mistake, but the benefit is you will go inside the village towards Ghodegaon and less crowded and will get a nice view of lakes and hill top. It was totally 134 k.m.
