"Pleasure trip"

Bhimtal Experience: It is a good place, for if a person feels like spending a day or two and also not doing anything. It is around the lake that all the activities do take place, like eating and boating or just loathing. Nothing much to do except to wonder the size of the lake and the height at which it is situated. Overall it is good place .
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Nothin great for sight seeing or shopping .
Activities & things to do: Go for boating, and let the boatman do it for you, unless you are a good swimmer.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Just take your car and hit NH 24.

"Bhimtal - A relaxed get-away"

Bhimtal Experience: Bhimtal, a lesser known destination is about 17 km from Nainital one of the most popular tourist places of Uttarakhand and India as well. We chose Bhimtal because the pictures of the The Country Inn resort looked better the hotels in Naintal and I think the decision was good. Bhimtal is a very quiet place with not much of the 'tourist' crowd and traffic. We expected the hill station to be cold but it was pleasant for just a day or two. We needed air-conditioning almost everyday. Our mistake that we didn't check - but it was disappointing -travelling from Chennai all the way up to Uttarakhand and to be sitting in Air-condtioned rooms!!
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: There aren't many places to see either. There are few lakes out of which we chose just one that still wasn't surrounded by buildings. We had a good boat ride. We then tried out the local Kumaoni costumes that were kept out for hire and had a fun photo session. The photographer promptly sent us the snaps in 10-15 days by Registered Post. We went to Nainital on day 2 and thanked our stars that we chose to stay at Bhimtal. Nainital is a beautiful place with a better weather than Bhimtal but is very crowded with a string of restrictions about parking, pick-up and so on. We had a Tempo Traveller which was stopped at least 3 km before we entered the town and we had to use a taxi to see the other places. Don't forget your walking shoes if you are planning to a trip to Nainital - there's a hell of a lot of walking to do but its fun if you are fit, fine and without kids!!! :) Back at Bhimtal, on day 3 we visited the Ghor Kal Mandir, an experience I will never forget. The temple is full of bells of all sizes - the tiniest to largest one can imagine. The belief is that if one makes a wish here and it comes true the devotee comes back and ties a bell to convey thanks to the Godess Durga. We made a few prayers ourselves and tied a couple of bells in advance!! Don't miss this temple for anything! We tried to do some shopping at the Bowali village - we were hoping to pick up some local handicrafts and found only shiny stuff brought in from Mumbai! The only local stuff we found was crafts made out of pine cones (creative). Then there was a shop by name Himjoli near our Hotel which had some (exorbitantly) priced local stuff on sale. But it is a chain of shops run by self-help groups - everything handmade by the women of nearby villages - sweaters, shawls, soaps, spices, home decor...interesting. We picked up some stuff there.
Activities & things to do: With just a few places to see, the best thing would be to relax at the hotel and have a good time.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Check the weather conditions first - if you are expecting a hill station like weather, this is not the place. The place is dry and can get hot at times.

"Learning vacations"

Bhimtal Experience: LEARNING VACATIONS at Bhimtal When I first heard about the idea of learning vacation, I was pretty sure it is going to be interesting, and it turned out to be more than that. It was a treat full of fun and learning, difficult to say which one was more, fun or learning. At an altitude exceeding 1300 meters, we were surrounded by towering peaks and Spellbinding views. The wilderness, close by, was home to many species of wild life and food to various animals, birds and reptiles. It provided a rare opportunity to study the wildlife in an open area. Nearby was Asia's largest butterfly collection by Frederick Smetacheck. We saw rare butterflies from deep inside the Himalayas. Places like Nainital, Naukuchia tal, Sat tal and Mukteshwar are all close by.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: The best thing about the whole trip was that it never gave a feeling of being in a hotel. It felt like home; the place and the people gave a feeling that we were staying in our own holiday home in the hills or what we call farm house back in Delhi.
Activities & things to do: Each day began with the learning and the second half of the day was spent enjoying the vacation. The first morning of our Learning Vacation started with getting to know about the basics of filmmaking, and then there was no looking back on consolidating our knowledge and skills on filmmaking. We were a group of six on a never before vacation. Greenery all around; and a tranquil atmosphere provided us was great inspiration and made it the best place to learn the art. Doing film courses are expensive and even vacation packages don?t come cheap. I can?t believe that I got both at an unbelievable price. It was a never before vacation. It's a unique idea executed extremely well by Vikas, the mastermind. My advice to all who are looking for an experience that is different from a mundane holiday is to try this one out. It's refreshing and exhilarating.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: A wonderful drive from Delhi. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Bhimtal: Off the Beaten Track"

Bhimtal Experience: Bhimtal is a quaint and charming town in Uttaranchal. I visited Bhimtal in December 2006. The magnificient lake which enjoys pride of place in Bhimtal and the lovely walks in and around Bhimtal made it a holiday never to be forgotten. If you want a quiet, peaceful vacation with no blaring horns or the stress of running helter skelter bhimtal is the place to visit!
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: A must at Bhimtal is taking a boat ride around the lake. There are day trips that one can take to Nainital, Saattal and Mukhteshwar. Though one can also drive down to Naukuchiatal [4 Kms away] I would recommend walking! One can see the most breathtaking views along the way! Where shopping is concerned, Bhimtal has the loveliest handmade candles and wood carvings. If one is into organic products, Bhini store in Bhimtal has organic rajma, green tea, sherbets. The Monolith resort in bhimtal is a must visit for a lovely meal. However, the smaller restraunts in bhimtal serve excellent zeera aloo, rajma rice and yellow dal.
Activities & things to do: As already mentioned, boating on the Bhimtal lake is a must. There are also gorgeous walks in and around Bhimtal...just follow the road! A visit to the close by Naukuchiatal [with its own stunning lake] and saattal [with seven gorgesous pristine blue lakes] is a must! If one can drag themselves out of bed early morning watch the sun rise over the bhimtal valley. Or better yet drive down to Mukhteshwar and watch the sunrise over the snow capped mountains.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: One can travel by road to Bhimtal or [and this is my favourite mode of travel!] take the overnight train, Ranikhet Express till Kathgodam and then take a cab till bhimtal [drive of about 45 minutes]. Negotiate a good rate with the cab person..they are agreeable to charing on a per head basis also and one can share a cab with other people!
