Chandigarh, a Union Territory in India serves as the capital city of two states – Punjab and Haryana. Often considered to be India’s first planned city, Chandigarh is known as a well-planned architectural and urban city. The city derives its name from the two words Chandi and Garh which mean ‘the fort of Chandi’.
The name links to an ancient temple devoted to Goddess Chandi, which was located in the area adjoining the city at the time. CCR/ Chandigarh Capital Region include Panchkula, Mohali and Zirakpur. The CCR was earlier known as Tricity, but with newer cities getting added, itis now known as the Chandigarh Capital Region.
Centred in the foothills of theShivalik mountain range, Chandigarh is located in the north-west part of India. Nicknamed as the ‘City Beautiful’, the master plan on which the city is constructed was devised by the French architect Le Corbuiser. The unsurpassed architecture and planned design gave the city a unique look.
Chandigarh’s attractions include many beautiful and well planned gardens, monuments and museums like the Capitol Complex, Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, Open hand, Government Museum and Art gallery. Mansa Devi is an important pilgrimage centre for Hindus.
The traditions followed and practiced by inhabitants of Chandigarh display a combination of customs of adjoining states with a slight urban tinge. The culture of Chandigarh is a mix of Haryanavi, Himachali, Punjabi, UP and Bihari.
Chandigarh with ample development has emerged as the preferred destination for IT companies. Not just this, the city is now even addressed as the MBA Hub by many. The Rajiv Gandhi Software Technology Park has added to the fame of the city.
The best time to visit Chandigarh is from mid-August to November. The city is well connected by road, rail and air to major Indian cities.

Ratanpur is one of the most popular sightseeing destinations of the district, where tourists can find the ancient Mahamaya Temple. This temple is recognised as a Sidh Peeth and houses a dual idol of Goddesses Saraswati and Laxmi.
Malhar is another notable sightseeing attraction in the district, which was part of the Kalchuri regime. The ruins of the temples dating back to 10th and 11th century have been excavated here. Among these, the prominent ones are the temples of Didneshwari, Pataleshwar and Dewari.
Talagaon is another important sightseeing destination, which is thronged by several tourists. Located on the banks of Maniyari River, this village became famous after the excavation of the Deorani-Jethani Temple. This mandir, dating back 1500 years, has a statue of Rudrashiv, which despite being old is still in excellent condition.
