About Chapora Tourism

Chapora, along with adjoining Vagator beach, is one of the popular beaches of Goa known for its pristine white sands dotted with palms and rock formations of black lava. The local industry of boat building and fishing complements the tourism industry, creating a blend of the conventional and modern. Chapora is an easy point to get to other places in Goa, and is 10kms from the town of Mapusa. Sightseeing: A must visit while here is the Chapora Fort, a 500-year-old Portuguese fort that can be reached from the hill at Vagator. Head to the famous Baga, where you could catch the Saturday night flea market, or explore the Baga River. You could indulge in some water sports while there. Visit Anjuna and explore the beaches and food shacks there, also shop at the Wednesday flea market. "Dil Chahta Hai!!"

Chapora Experience: The highlight of Chapora is the Chapora fort, situated between Chapora and Vagator. This is where the scene in Dil Chahta Hai was shot, of the three friends sitting atop a fort. The views from the top of the fort are very beautiful.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: There are tours which take you to the Vagator beach, but the fort is usually left unvisited. There are a few shops along the beach, but otherwise there isn't much shopping.

Activities & things to do: No water sports are available

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: One will probably have to come here via local bus, hire a vehicle and drive down to the fort. Make sure you wear your sport shoes while visiting this place, because you will have to climb the hill for about 10 minutes to reach the fort.

Tourist places in Chapora

Chapora is a famous coastal village which is situated in the North Goa District. The main city, Mapusa is located around 10 km from this village and is well-connected by local buses, taxis, auto rickshaws and motorcycles. Chapora is a beautiful village which is famous for various white sand beaches and ancient forts.

Some of the chief sightseeing places in and nearby Chapora are the Chapora Beach, Vagator Beach and Anjuna Beach. Travellers can also visit the famous Chapora Fort, Aguada Fort and Baga Beach that are just few kilometres away from the village. The beaches at Chapora have several cafes, seafood joints, bars, clubs and more.

The ancient forts are mainly built by Portuguese, who ruled the region for over 400 years. Beaches near Chapora are crowded throughout the year which offer wide range of water sports and beach activities.
