Cherrapunjee Experience: Cherrapunjee is a place where you can recompose yourself. the calm and serene beauty of this place accompanied with simple and innocent villagers roaming all around is bound to mesmerize you. the water falls all around you and the clouds hugging you will leave you no other option other than loving and adoring them.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Can reach by car from shillong. Approximately 90 kms from Shillong. Must not miss the ride from shillong to Cherranpunjee. The beautiful strips of gorges will keep you spellbound throughout the journey.

"Majestic Cherrapunjee"

Cherrapunjee Experience: Cherrapunjee is an awesome destination to see nature at its best. Lush green mountains greet you much before you reach cherrapunjee from Shillong. You can see clouds on the roads, on the mountains, it thrills to move through the clouds. On a clear day, series of water falls can be seen falling down thousand feet and making thrilling sound.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Being a small place, one may not get great food joints. But smaller restaurents cater nicely to your appetite. Myusmai Cave is a delight to enter and pass through around 100m of cave. Could be of great interest to geologists. If you really possess some energy, then venture into climbing down to Double decker root bridge.
Activities & things to do: There are two or three places to stay. Nothing great to offer.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: If you plan to reach in a tourist season, make sure you book your accomodation quite in advance.

"Meghalaya - a place to behold...."

Cherrapunjee Experience: We visited Meghalaya & Assam in April, 2010. It was an extremely enjoyable trip and something that we (including my wife, daughter and son) will probably never forget. There is hardly any commercialization of this place and hence remains untouched in terms of natural beauty. The fun part was the constant hide and seek that we had to play with the clouds to catch a sight to behold!
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: There is hardly any good shops elsewhere other than Shillong. We did buy some handicraft items from some of the handloom shops in Shilliong.
Activities & things to do: Other than sight-seeing, there is nothing much we could do.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Reached Guwahati from Kolkata by flight. Took taxi from airport to Shillong. Stayed in Shillong club, which was expensive but nice (right at the heart of the city). From there, we took the help of Pradip-da (9863087418), who was more than just a taxi-driver. He was our local guide, shopping guide, everything. We drove in his car to different parts of Meghalaya for 3.5 days but I wish I had few more days to enjoy more of the scenic beauty of Meghalaya. It was raining a lot and was cold also - so need to take appropriate gear for that.

"Cherrapunjee - A Untouched beauty..."

Cherrapunjee Experience: As you can assume from the title - 'A Untouched Beauty' that what kind of this place is all about. Before going there, I was so curious about my trip of North East India because from school time I was heard about this place that its three sides are surrounded huge mountains and is the most rainiest place in INDIA. This place is full of sight scenes with broad and neat n clean roads make you feel that you are driving in your dream place............. There are lots of points there to enjoy and to feel the nature....
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Food : If you are a non-veggi, than you'll not get any kind of inconvenience there as their are lots of options for non-veg... But, If you are a veggi then you need to do some effort to find out a place to eat...
Activities & things to do: Elephanta falls, Tiger Cave, etc are some of the points where you can enjoy the most... Mainly Water lover will love these places...
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: To reach Cherrapunjee : From Guwahati you can hire a cab or take a state transport bus too... but I'll prefer to consult a trip planner agency to schedule your trip for you.

"It's perennial monsoon here / Cattle-clouds graze...."

Cherrapunjee Experience: Winter, though, is not the time to be in Cherrapunjee for those who romance with the clutter of raindrops on the roof - rather it suits the sun-dance kids ! I belong to the latter genre. From Umroi (Barapani / Shillong) airport a three-hour drive takes you to Sohra (Cherrapunjee - as it is known to the locals). The journey is ..... I am at a loss for the apt adjectives - breathtaking, exhilarating, mind blowing? I still am groping for the right one. The dark asphalt road meandering through intoxicatingly green valleys, enamouring rivulets and streams, captivating hills, picturesque hamlets and the brilliant blue sky conjures up a treat to the eyes. Wonder awaits you at every turn of the road.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Try chicken in traditional Nyjjong (Not sure if I am exactly right) style. Nyjjong subzee preparartion shall also please the vegetarian taste buds, too. Don't miss the cleanest village of the Asia Mawlylong.
Activities & things to do: You can just sit back and relax. If you are an adventure enthusiast don't miss the living and double decker root-bridges - wonderful product of bio-engineering skills of ancient Khasi tribe. You can also revel in the natural swimming pool (of course, you may not be willing to try it in the freezing temperatures of late December). Just remember the saying - fitness is the key to enjoy life to its fullest.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Avoid the horrible traffic jams of Shillong - those can even put to shame observed in Kolkata during mega-rallies at Brigade Parade Ground.

"Rains in Cherrapunjee"

Cherrapunjee Experience: Have you lately listened to the falling rain? Do you remember the rains thundering down on the tin roof of your childhood home? If not, come to Cherrapunjee when the monsoon hits. You will have an experience you will never forget.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: The place is about 2 hours drive from Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. The drive itself is breath-taking. The only place to stay, apart from the govt. Circuit house, is Cherra Resort (look up its website) run by one Mr Dennis. It is spartan, clean and economical. The food is excellent - try the Pork Niyong, it is good. The owner is a treasure-house of information on the region. Dont expect shopping. The sight-seeing is different from other 'touristy' places, you can find your own place to sight-see, so verdant and virgin the area is!
Activities & things to do: Activities are mostly to do with trekking, caving, climbing hills, bathing in waterrfalls, or just gazing over the hills into the plains below. At night-time, if the weather is clear, you will see so many stars you will be surprised to realise you never thought there were so many!
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: To travel to Cherrapunjee, reach Guwahati first by air or rail, take a taxi or a bus to Shillong, enjoy a couple of days there, and then take another taxi to Cherra. From Guwahati, the whole trip of 4 days will cost no more than 10 thousand (including fare). While returning, dont forget to drop in for a couple of days at Guwahati. It has the best sunset, over the Brahmaputra, the world has to offer!
