"Chiplun is awesome" new review

  • 6/7
  • Posted 3 weeks ago
I love this city as it my home town. This mainly famous for Alphonso mangoes . This is really good city of the Konkan. You will find famous waterfall in Mumbai Goa highway. There are many beaches near by like Guhaghar, Hedwi etc. Guhaghar is the best beach to visit. One of the best attraction is Anjalvel Lighthouse. The view from that light is awesome. You will also find sea food.

"Guhagar - a rediscovered gem"

  • Posted Jan 8, 2009
(The review is for Guhagar - about 40 kms ahead to Chiplun). A one horse town, just re-discovering it's tourist attraction thanks to it's proximity to Dapoli and Chiplun. Sandy white beaches, no manic crowds, no beach hawkers and peace and tranqulity all day (and night) long

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Though eating out choices are limited, you cant go wrong if you stick to Annapurna (next to Kautilya hotel) or Lagoon Bar and Restaurant (opposite the bus stand

Activities & things to do: The best part of Guhagar is that the only pressure on you is when to go to the beach and when to leave.....no malls, curio shops or other distractions to take you away from a peaceful and relaxed holiday

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: About 6 hours from Pune, you can either take the Kolhapur road and turn off at Karad towards Chiplun and onwards to Guhagar or go via Mahabaleshwar, down the pratapgadh ghat and join the Mumbai - Goa highway and turn off just before Chiplun...a good drive both ways though the Kolhapur road is recommended for Pune tourists

Chiplun Info

  • State: Maharashtra
  • Famous for/as: Waterfront
  • Altitude: 22 m
Chiplun is a hamlet in the district of Ratnagiri in Maharashtra. It is located on the Mumbai–Goa highway (NH-17) in western India. The town, situated in the Konkan region, mostly hosts a number of pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

The industrial area is called Chiplun which means \"the abode of Lord Parshurama\". Parshuram is the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple of Parshuram incorporates both the Hindu and Muslim style of architecture.

The town is located on the banks of the River Vashishthi. It is a valley situated between the Western Ghats on one side and the Arabian Sea on the other. Chiplun has an access point called Guhagar connecting Velneshwar and Hedvi temples which have great local significance.

Primarily a monsoon destination, Chiplun is known for its natural beauty. The major sightseeing options here include Swatsada waterfall, Gowalkot Fort, Walvalkar Shivaji Museum, etc. While the Fort was built by Shivaji Maharaj in 1670 on an area of two acres, the Walvalkar Musuem was built as a tribute to Shivaji and exhibits various pictures and statues related to the great warrior.

It is an ideal weekend holiday destination for people staying in Mumbai and Goa. The city links the western coast and the interiors of Maharashtra and is a place for adventure activities like boating on the Vashishthi River and trekking in the hills around.

The best time to visit Chiplun is from October to February and June to September. Chiplun can be reached by road from several destinations in Maharashtra. The Chiplun railway station, which belongs to the Konkan Railway, is well connected to Mumbai and Goa. It is also reachable by air, with two to three nearby airports like Pune Airport, Kolhapur Airport and the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.
